  • About Orbit XO

Orbit XO is Tic-Tac-Toe for two people sharing one iPhone, with twelve colour themes to choose from. It works entirely offline: there is no internet connection, account or sign-in. It needs an iPhone running iOS 18 or later, and is used upright in portrait.

  • How to play

The players take turns, X first, tapping an empty square to place their mark. Three in a row, across, down or diagonally, wins the round and is marked with a line. If the board fills with no line, it is a draw. A square that is already taken ignores taps, and once a round is over the board is locked until you start another.

  • Another round

When a round ends, a Play Again button appears under the board. Tap it to clear the board for the next round. The player who did not open the last round goes first, so X and O take turns at opening.

  • Scores

The panel at the top counts X wins, draws and O wins. Scores are kept while the app is open and are not saved: if you close the app, or iOS closes it, they start again from zero, and an unfinished game is not kept either. To clear them sooner, open Settings (the gear, top right) and tap Reset Scores. You are asked to confirm, and then the scores are zeroed and a fresh round begins with X to open.

  • Themes

Tap the tile at the top left, or choose Theme in Settings, to pick from Eclipse, Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Nebula. The whole game changes with it: the board, the marks, the winning line and the controls. Your choice is remembered each time you open the app.

  • Sound and haptics

Orbit XO plays short, soft sound effects: a light tick when a mark is placed (a little higher for O than for X), a rising three-note chime when someone wins, two falling notes for a draw, and a gentle tick for Play Again. It also gives a light tap when a mark is placed and a softer one when a round ends. Sound and Haptics are separate switches in Settings (the gear, top right), both on by default, so you can keep either one without the other. Sound follows your iPhone's Ring/Silent switch and volume: with the switch on silent you will hear nothing. It plays alongside any music or podcast you are listening to rather than stopping it, and only while Orbit XO is open. The game plays the same either way.

  • Accessibility

Text follows your iPhone's text size setting. With VoiceOver, each square is read with its row, column and whether it holds an X, an O or is empty, and the scores and whose turn it is can be read as well. With Reduce Motion on in iOS settings, marks and the winning line appear without animating, and a change of theme happens at once.

  • Troubleshooting

If something looks wrong, close Orbit XO completely (swipe it away in the app switcher) and open it again. Check the App Store for an update, and that your iPhone is on iOS 18 or later. If you cannot hear any sound, check that Sound is on in Settings, that your iPhone's Ring/Silent switch is not on silent, and that the volume is up. If your theme, sound or haptics choice is not being remembered, restart your iPhone and choose it again. As a last step, delete Orbit XO and install it again: this resets your theme, sound and haptics choices, and loses nothing else, because nothing else is saved. If it is still not right, email us.

  • Data & privacy

Orbit XO has no accounts and never connects to the internet. Gorantla Labs does not collect or receive anything from it: your theme, sound and haptics choices stay on your iPhone. See the Privacy Policy for full detail, or email us with any privacy question.
